Food technology is the application of food sciences to the selection, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution and use of safe nutrition & wholesome food.
Food scientists & food technologists study the physical, chemical & microbial make up of food. Depending on their area of specialization, food scientists may develop ways to process, preserve, package or store food, according to industry & government specifications & regulations. A plethora of employment opportunities are available in following streams
- Research & Development: towards betterment of Yield, appearance, flavor, nutritive value of packaged foods in Govt. Universities & Institution e.g. CFTRI
- Public Sector: as food inspectors, health inspectors e.g. in PFA
- Programme Consultants: with organizations like UNICEF, WTO, FAO
- Govt. Sector: like FCI purchase, storage, transport & distribution of food grains & other food materials
- Freelance Consultants
- Health Educators/ Diet Consultant
